Russia has officially removed Taliban from its list of banned terrorist groups after over 20 years. The move aims to normalize ties with Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government, which took power after the U.S. withdrawal in 2021. President Putin previously called the Taliban an “ally” against terrorism, especially after the deadly ISIS-Khorasan attack in Moscow in March 2024 that killed 145 people.
