India to get 8 new Cheetahs from Botswana, first phase of transfer to begin in May

India will get eight cheetahs from Botswana in two phases under Project Cheetah, with the first transfer set for May 2025. The animals will be housed at Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. Authorities are training ‘cheetah mitras’ and planning inter-state coordination to expand conservation beyond Kuno National Park.
